The Story of the Star Venture

This Yamaha full-dress touring nameplate debuted for the 2018 model year in North America as the company’s new flagship long-distance cruiser, filling the role previously occupied by Yamaha’s older luxury-tourer lineage. Announced in 2017 and shown as the all-new 2018 Star Venture, it was positioned as a premium transcontinental motorcycle rather than a stripped-down cruiser, with a strong emphasis on comfort, weather protection, storage, integrated infotainment, and long-haul convenience.

The model launched in standard and Transcontinental forms, reflecting Yamaha’s aim to cover both the core luxury-touring market and riders who wanted more factory-installed touring equipment. One of its most notable historical talking points was the inclusion of an electric reverse/parking assist system, marketed by Yamaha as a first for a production motorcycle, along with a newly developed infotainment package designed with Yamaha Corporation. Those features helped define the bike’s identity and separated it from earlier Yamaha cruisers that relied more heavily on traditional V-twin touring formulas.

The nameplate remained part of Yamaha’s U.S. and Canadian touring offerings into the early 2020s, with official 2021 parts and materials still referencing the model. After that point, it disappeared from Yamaha’s current lineup, making 2021 the final model year for this continuous production run. In enthusiast terms, it is remembered as Yamaha’s modern attempt to reassert itself in the heavyweight luxury-touring class, combining classic long-distance cruiser styling with contemporary electronics and rider convenience features.
