The Story of the Grizzly 80

Yamaha introduced this youth-oriented ATV for the 2005 model year and kept it in the lineup through 2008. It sat at the small-displacement end of Yamaha’s ATV range, aimed at younger riders and beginners who wanted a compact, approachable machine with Yamaha’s familiar utility-model styling. Rather than being a long-running, heavily reworked platform, it followed a short, straightforward production run during the mid-2000s and did not appear to have a later revival under the same nameplate. The model’s place in Yamaha history is tied to that entry-level role: a small, easy-to-handle ATV that carried the Grizzly family identity into the youth segment, borrowing the tougher visual language associated with Yamaha’s larger utility machines while remaining sized for new riders. Because it was a limited-run nameplate, it is best understood as a discrete chapter in Yamaha’s ATV lineup rather than a model with multiple separate eras.
