Yamaha introduced this flagship utility ATV in the mid-2000s as a larger, more capable successor in its Grizzly line. The nameplate first appeared as the Grizzly 700FI, which Yamaha says was released in European and North American markets in 2006 and then launched in Japan as a 2008 model. The model became an important step in Yamaha’s ATV lineup because it carried the Grizzly name into the 700-class and established the formula that has defined the machine ever since: a rugged utility-oriented platform with modern features and broad appeal among hunters, land managers, and recreational riders. Yamaha’s later product announcements continued to reference the Grizzly as its flagship utility ATV, showing that the nameplate remained a core part of the company’s off-road lineup rather than a short-lived special edition.
Over time, the model’s identity evolved from the original Grizzly 700FI branding to the simpler Grizzly 700 naming used in later market descriptions, but it is the same continuing nameplate rather than a separate revival. It has remained one of Yamaha’s best-known ATV models and a long-running benchmark in the utility ATV category.
