FZR750

Yamaha introduced this nameplate in 1987 as one of its first big-bike racer replicas, bringing the Genesis-era 750 into a more race-focused chassis with the company’s aluminum Deltabox frame. It was developed from the earlier FZ750 concept, but shifted the emphasis toward sharper handling and a more competition-inspired package, helping establish Yamaha’s presence in the late-1980s superbike boom. In Yamaha’s own historical material, the model is described as part of the FZR series that arrived in 1987, alongside the larger FZR1000, and it became an important stepping stone in the brand’s sportbike evolution. By 1989 the lineup moved on to the related FZR750R/OW01 homologation machine, so this original nameplate had a short, distinct run before being replaced by the more extreme R variant.
