MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the F6 w/F7 Cab

This was a market-specific Volvo medium-duty truck variant that paired the F6 chassis with the taller F7 cab. It belonged to the Club of Four era of Volvo cab-over trucks, when the company adapted a shared cab design across several light and medium commercial models for different payload and market needs. The F7-style cab gave the lighter F6 a roomier, more versatile driving environment than the original lower cab arrangements, which made it better suited to distribution, municipal, and short-haul work where driver comfort and visibility mattered. In Volvo’s truck history, this nameplate sits at the transition between the earlier F4/F6/F7 family and the newer FL range that arrived in the mid-1980s. As Volvo modernized its medium-duty lineup, the older Club of Four-based trucks were phased out in favor of the FL6 and related successors, leaving this version as a short-lived but distinctive bridge between two eras of Volvo commercial vehicles.
