Volvo introduced this nameplate for the 2025 model year as the renamed version of its fully electric XC40 Recharge, aligning it with the company’s newer EV naming scheme. It is a compact, fully electric SUV positioned below Volvo’s larger electric models, and it carries forward the familiar compact-SUV format that had already made the electric XC40 a key part of Volvo’s EV lineup. The name change did not mark a new generation so much as a branding update for the same battery-electric vehicle, with the XC40 badge retained for the mild-hybrid versions. As of now, it remains in production as Volvo’s compact electric SUV.
