This nameplate was introduced for model year 2024, when Volvo Cars renamed the fully electric C40 Recharge to EC40 as part of a broader move to standardize its electric model naming. The change did not mark a new vehicle generation so much as a badge update for the same compact, coupe-style electric SUV already known for its distinctive fastback roofline and battery-electric positioning. Volvo described it as fitting alongside the brand’s other fully electric models and noted that customer deliveries under the new name were expected to begin in 2024. The EC40 continues the line of Volvo’s electric compact crossover coupés and occupies a more style-focused niche than the boxier XC40/EX40 sibling. Because the nameplate is still in production, there is no final model year to record yet.
