MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the B12R

Introduced in 2003, this was Volvo’s large rear-engined coach chassis aimed at long-distance and touring applications, and it became part of the company’s Brazilian bus program in Curitiba. It was positioned as a high-technology road chassis with electronic engine management and integrated vehicle systems, and Volvo refreshed it in 2007 with the BEA-2 electronics architecture, adding features such as enhanced electronic braking and stability-control integration. The nameplate was used on export and regional coach orders in markets such as South Africa, Egypt, Australia and Brazil. In Volvo’s Brazilian product records, production spans from 2003 through 2011, after which it was superseded by newer coach chassis in the company’s lineup.
