MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the BRH

This Volvo hybrid bus chassis was introduced as part of the company’s early push into commercial electrified public transport. In Asia-Pacific, Volvo announced the B5RH in 2012 and brought it into operation in Perth in 2013 as a low-entry hybrid for the city’s CAT service. The same basic hybrid concept was also developed for Latin American markets, where Volvo used the B215RH designation in Brazil. The model used Volvo’s parallel-hybrid system, allowing the bus to run on electric power, diesel power, or both together, with energy recovered under braking. In Volvo’s Brazilian documentation, the B215RH appears as a production model for 2013 through 2015, which aligns with its limited life as a regional hybrid chassis rather than a long-running global nameplate. Enthusiast interest in this model comes from its place in Volvo’s transition from conventional diesel bus chassis toward the electrified and hybrid platforms that followed.
