Pick-Up

This compact Japanese pickup nameplate emerged in the North American market in the mid-1970s as the successor to earlier Hilux-badged trucks, and it helped establish the brand’s reputation for small, durable work vehicles. Early versions were simple, utility-focused trucks, but over time the line broadened into 2WD and 4WD variants, regular-cab and extended-cab configurations, and increasingly refined trim levels aimed at both job-site buyers and everyday drivers. By the 1980s, the model had become one of the best-known compact pickups in the United States and Canada, valued for its size, reliability, and strong enthusiast following. The final years of the nameplate ran through the 1995 model year, when it was succeeded by a new compact pickup introduced under a different name. That transition marked the end of the original pickup-era badge, but the truck’s legacy continued through its replacement and its long-running reputation for durability.
