This nameplate was introduced in the 1999 model year as Toyota’s coupe-oriented offshoot of the Camry, aimed at buyers who wanted a more stylish two-door alternative to the mainstream sedan. Built on Camry underpinnings, it was positioned as a comfortable personal luxury car rather than a hard-edged sports coupe, and it later expanded to include a convertible variant. The first generation ran through the 2003 model year, followed by a second generation that launched for 2004 and carried the model through 2008. That second-generation car was updated during its run and remained the final chapter for the badge. In Toyota’s own historic-vehicle archive, the model is grouped into two continuous generations: 1999–2003 and 2004–2006, with a final 2007–2008 update. The nameplate was discontinued after the 2008 model year and did not return, making it a relatively short-lived but memorable Toyota two-door from the late 1990s and 2000s.
