MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Promaster City

This commercial van nameplate first appeared in the 2015 model year as Ram’s compact, city-friendly work van, offered in cargo and passenger configurations. It was positioned below the larger ProMaster as a more maneuverable, front-wheel-drive alternative for businesses that needed a small van for deliveries, service work, or shuttle use. Early marketing emphasized its practical packaging, low step-in height, and adaptable interior space, while the cargo version became known for fitting into tight urban environments without giving up useful load capacity.

The nameplate continued through the 2022 model year before leaving the U.S. market, creating a gap after its first run ended. Ram then revived the nameplate for a new 2027 model, effectively bringing the compact commercial-van concept back into the lineup after a several-year absence. The revived version is a separate production period rather than a continuation of the earlier van, but it carries forward the same basic mission: a right-sized Ram van aimed at work buyers who need easy handling, flexible configurations, and everyday practicality. The nameplate’s history now spans an original run from 2015 through 2022 and a later revival beginning with the 2027 model year.
