The Ram 3500 is Ram’s one-ton heavy-duty pickup, created as part of the Ram Truck brand’s launch as a stand-alone division in 2009. For the 2010 model year, Ram Heavy Duty trucks reached the market under the new Ram name, marking the beginning of the Ram-badged 3500 as a distinct nameplate. Built for the most demanding towing and hauling work, it has remained the top-duty pickup in Ram’s pickup lineup rather than a lifestyle-oriented trim or special package.
From the start, the 3500 was positioned as the most capable member of the Ram heavy-duty family, aimed at commercial buyers, ranch and job-site use, and customers who needed maximum fifth-wheel and payload capability. Over time, it evolved from the earlier Dodge Ram heavy-duty tradition into a more refined Ram-branded truck with increasing attention to ride quality, drivability, and interior comfort. A major update arrived for the 2013 model year, when the truck was substantially reworked with stronger underpinnings and updated chassis engineering. Another important leap came with the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty redesign, which pushed the platform further in capability and refinement while keeping the 3500 focused on serious work.
Although the truck has been refreshed and redesigned over the years, it has remained in continuous production under the Ram name since its introduction and continues to represent the brand’s most extreme pickup offering.
