This crossover SUV was introduced for the 2006 model year as Pontiac’s answer to the growing compact-SUV market and as a more conventional successor to the Aztek. It shared its basic GM Theta architecture and running gear with the first-generation Chevrolet Equinox, but wore Pontiac’s sportier styling and tuning to fit the division’s performance-oriented image. The nameplate arrived in 2005 and reached dealerships for 2006, then remained in production through the 2009 model year. It was part of the last wave of new Pontiac products before GM phased out the brand, and it was ultimately discontinued as Pontiac was wound down. The nameplate did not return after its initial run, making it a single continuous production period.
