The Montana SV6 was Pontiac’s second-generation minivan nameplate, introduced for the 2005 model year as a renamed and thoroughly restyled successor to the earlier Montana. It marked a shift away from the older, more carlike look of the first-generation van and toward a taller, more SUV-influenced design theme that Pontiac used to give the model a more rugged image. The SV6 badge identified the updated generation and helped distinguish it from the outgoing Montana. In the United States, the model was short-lived and disappeared after the 2006 model year, but production continued in Canada and Mexico through the 2009 model year. As part of GM’s U-body minivan family, it shared its basic architecture with contemporaries such as the Chevrolet Uplander, Buick Terraza, and Saturn Relay. Today it is remembered as one of the final Pontiac minivans and as a late-era example of GM’s attempt to give a family hauler a more distinctive, near-crossover personality.
