The 200SX nameplate was used by Nissan across multiple, separate production periods and in different markets, rather than as a single uninterrupted model line. It first appeared in export markets in the mid-1970s as the overseas name for the Silvia S10, and Nissan later reused the badge on later Silvia-based coupes and hatchbacks in various regions. In the late 1980s and 1990s, the name showed up again on different generations of Nissan’s rear-wheel-drive sports coupes, while North America also saw a separate 200SX coupe in the mid-1990s on a different platform from the Silvia family. In some markets, the badge continued into the S15-era cars around the turn of the millennium.
