MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Griso 1200 8V SE

This special-edition Italian naked bike was introduced as a dressier, more collector-focused version of the earlier big-twin roadster line. It appeared in the early 2010s as a limited-run variant of the 1200 8V family, carrying forward the model’s long, muscular stance and transverse V-twin character while adding distinctive cosmetic and equipment changes that set it apart from the standard machine. In period coverage and factory literature, the special edition was presented as a more exclusive interpretation of the existing platform rather than a full redesign.

The SE’s identity changed over time, but its place in the lineup was always tied to the same core concept: a characterful, shaft-driven Italian roadster aimed at riders who wanted something more individual than the mainstream naked-bike formula. Early versions were associated with collector-oriented detailing, and later factory communications showed the special edition continuing under updated presentation before the line was phased out in the mid-2010s. That makes it part of the final era of the original 1200 8V Griso family, rather than a separate all-new generation.

Enthusiasts tend to remember this variant for preserving the model’s distinctive styling while giving it a more refined, premium feel. It occupies a small but notable niche in Moto Guzzi history as one of the more distinctive special editions from the Mandello era before the model’s production run ended.
