This two-seat MINI was introduced as a compact sports coupe version of the modern MINI range, and it reached the market as a 2012 model year vehicle after its 2011 unveiling and launch campaign. It was the brand’s first volume-production two-seater of the modern era and the first MINI to use a three-box body structure, giving it a distinctly different profile from the hatchback. The design emphasized a lower, more focused stance, a steeply tapered rear section, and an integrated roof spoiler, with an active rear spoiler added to reinforce the car’s performance-oriented character.
The model was positioned as the most driver-focused member of the MINI family at the time, offered in familiar Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works forms. Although it shared its underlying hardware with other MINI variants, the coupé’s body style, seating layout, and chassis tuning gave it a more specialized personality. MINI used it to broaden the brand beyond hatchbacks, convertibles, and estate-style derivatives, and to underscore the performance image that had long been part of the nameplate’s appeal.
Production came to an end in 2015 as MINI completed the run of its two-seater coupé and its sister roadster. That gave the model a relatively short but distinctive career, and it remains notable as one of the most unusual modern MINI derivatives: a compact, enthusiast-oriented special body style that stood apart from the mainstream lineup while still retaining the brand’s trademark character and packaging creativity.
