After a gap in use, the name returned for the 1969 model year as a distinct full-size coupe positioned as a sporty alternative within Mercury’s big-car line. That second-era car ran through 1970 and is the best-known classic interpretation of the badge, with an emphasis on bold styling and available V8 power in the late-muscle-car era. Following another long hiatus, the nameplate was revived again for the 2003 and 2004 model years on a modernized rear-wheel-drive sedan based on the Grand Marquis/Crown Victoria architecture. This final revival was marketed as a performance-oriented halo car for the brand, echoing the character of the earlier cars while adapting it to a more contemporary four-door format.
