This battery-electric large van arrived in 2019 as an all-electric offshoot of the long-running Sprinter family, marking the brand’s first step into a battery-powered version of its full-size commercial van. The initial production version launched as a panel van and was built in Düsseldorf, where it joined the company’s broader electrification push for commercial vehicles. In 2023, the nameplate entered a second-generation phase with a comprehensively reworked design and new electric architecture, reflecting a more ambitious approach to range, packaging, and body-style flexibility. The newer version expanded the concept beyond the original cargo-van focus and was planned for production in Europe and North America. Because the nameplate remained continuously in use rather than disappearing and returning after a gap, it is treated as one ongoing production run with a major generational change rather than separate historical periods.
