MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the MC20

Introduced in 2020, this super sports car marked the start of Maserati’s new product era and revived the brand’s focus on a dedicated mid-engine two-seater. The name combines “Maserati Corse” with the year 2020, reflecting both the company’s racing heritage and the car’s launch timing. Built in Modena, it was developed as a halo model for the modern Maserati lineup and quickly became notable for bringing a carbon-fiber monocoque and a new in-house engine program back to the brand after a long hiatus.

The model’s history is tied to a clear break from Maserati’s earlier grand touring and sedan tradition: it introduced a fresh supercar identity while still drawing on the marque’s motorsport image. The project was presented as a symbol of Maserati’s renewed engineering direction, and official materials positioned it as the first car of the brand’s new era. In some markets, it was identified in model-year terms as part of the MY21 range, while later documentation and market materials also referenced MY22 production and beyond.

Over time, the nameplate expanded beyond the original coupé with the open-top Cielo derivative, but the core MC20 identity remains centered on the original launch model: a modern Italian super sports car aimed at enthusiasts who wanted a more exclusive, driver-focused Maserati with strong historical connections to the company’s racing roots.
