Introduced for the 2009 model year, this full-size luxury sedan marked the return of a true flagship sedan to the brand’s lineup after a gap in that role. It was developed as a modern alternative to the company’s older rear-drive luxury cars, using a front-wheel-drive-based architecture with available all-wheel drive and a focus on comfort, quiet cruising, and contemporary convenience technology. At launch, it stood out for blending a formal sedan profile with advanced driver-assistance and luxury features that helped redefine the brand’s image in the late 2000s. During its run, the car received updates that freshened styling and improved equipment, and a turbocharged EcoBoost V6 was later added alongside the base V6 to broaden its appeal. The nameplate remained in production through the 2016 model year, after which the brand moved its flagship sedan duties to a revived historic name for 2017.
