ZR-7S

This nameplate was introduced as Kawasaki’s half-faired evolution of the ZR-7, bringing a more touring-oriented look and added wind protection to the existing middleweight standard platform. Kawasaki’s own heritage material describes it as arriving two years after the original ZR-7, while official owner-center parts and service listings show model-year coverage beginning in 2001 and continuing through 2005. The machine kept the familiar air/oil-cooled inline-four character of the ZR-7 family, but the S version was distinguished less by mechanical reinvention than by its sport-touring emphasis, with a half fairing, revised cockpit presentation, and suspension changes intended to make it steadier and more comfortable at speed. In period, it fit between simpler naked standards and larger sport-touring machines, offering a practical, approachable option for riders who wanted everyday usability with a bit more weather protection. The model appears to have had a single continuous production run, ending after the 2005 model year before Kawasaki moved on to newer middleweight designs.
