The KLX650R was Kawasaki’s off-road-focused member of the KLX650 family, introduced for the 1993 model year as the lighter, kick-start, competition-leaning counterpart to the more road-oriented KLX650 variants. Kawasaki’s parts documentation shows the nameplate in 1993 and again in 1995 and 1996, confirming a continuous run through the 1996 model year. Within the KLX650 lineup, the R version was the dirt-oriented machine, aimed at riders who wanted a big-displacement four-stroke trail and enduro bike rather than a dual-purpose street model. It remained a relatively short-lived enthusiast model and did not continue into later model years after 1996.
