MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the KLX300R

Kawasaki added this nameplate to its modern KLX off-road lineup for the 2021 model year, positioning it as the flagship trail-focused machine between casual play bikes and full competition motorcycles. The model was created as a lightweight, full-size off-road bike built around Kawasaki’s 292cc liquid-cooled four-stroke single and a chassis tuned for trail use rather than motocross racing. Kawasaki has kept the nameplate active through successive model years, with annual updates and refreshes rather than a documented full discontinuation in the official lineup. In Kawasaki’s own product language, it serves as the versatile bridge in the KLX family: approachable enough for recreational riders, but serious enough for technical off-road riding. The model’s history is closely tied to the broader revival and expansion of Kawasaki’s KLX off-road range in the early 2020s, when the company re-established the line around several trail-oriented models and made this one the top-end off-road entry in that family.
