MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the QX80

Introduced for the 2014 model year, this full-size luxury SUV marked the transition from the earlier QX56 nameplate to INFINITI’s newer alphanumeric naming strategy. The change gave the flagship SUV a name that fit the brand’s updated lineup while preserving the same role at the top of the range: a large, body-on-frame luxury SUV aimed at buyers who wanted three-row space, towing capability, and a premium cabin in one package.

The nameplate has remained in continuous production since that 2014 debut. Early versions carried forward the basic formula established by the previous model, but the vehicle gradually evolved through updates in styling, equipment, and technology. In 2024, INFINITI introduced a thoroughly redesigned generation that brought a much more modern exterior and interior while keeping the model’s position as the brand’s full-size flagship SUV. That redesign also emphasized a more upscale presentation, with a greater focus on comfort, craftsmanship, and advanced driver-assistance features.

Over time, the model has become one of INFINITI’s most recognizable vehicles, representing the brand’s largest and most luxurious SUV offering. It has been closely associated with family-oriented luxury, long-distance comfort, and traditional SUV utility, while also serving as a showcase for INFINITI design language and flagship technology. Today it continues as the brand’s top SUV nameplate, carrying forward the same market role established when the QX80 badge first appeared for the 2014 model year.
