MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Veloster N

Introduced for the 2019 model year, this N-badged compact performance hatchback marked the debut of Hyundai’s high-performance sub-brand in the U.S. market. It was developed at Hyundai’s Namyang R&D center and validated at the Nürburgring, with the formula centered on everyday usability backed by track-focused handling and chassis tuning. The model arrived as part of the second-generation hatchback family and quickly became the enthusiast-oriented halo version of that lineup.

A significant update arrived for 2020, when Hyundai expanded the car’s technology and performance hardware, including the addition of a dual-clutch transmission option in some markets. That refresh helped keep the nameplate relevant as a modern hot hatch while preserving its core character. Outside the showroom, the same badge also appeared on touring-car and electric racing projects, reinforcing the nameplate’s motorsport image and its role in building the N performance identity.

Official Hyundai materials and update listings point to the 2021–2022 model years as the final production run for this car, and no separate earlier production period is evident. As a result, it is treated here as a single continuous generation that ended after the 2022 model year.
