MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Sidecar for FLHX/I

Harley-Davidson’s factory sidecar program was part of its long-running TLE family of sidecars, built at the company’s Tomahawk, Wisconsin, operations and offered for selected Touring motorcycles. The FLHX/I-specific version appears in Harley-Davidson parts documentation by the 2006 model year, aligning with the introduction of the FLHX Street Glide platform that same year. It was one of the factory sidecar fitments aimed at riders who wanted the classic three-wheel look and the extra passenger or cargo space of a sidecar without moving to a full trike.

This sidecar remained part of Harley-Davidson’s supported factory sidecar lineup through the end of the 2011 model year. Harley-Davidson later stated that the fiberglass-body sidecar line was discontinued in 2011 and that it would no longer provide new bikes outfitted with sidecars to the general public. Within Harley-Davidson history, these factory sidecars are significant because they extended the company’s touring lineup with a traditional American sidecar setup long after most major manufacturers had abandoned the format.
