Introduced for the 1984 model year, this medium-duty cab-over joined GMC’s Forward/Tiltmaster family as the heavier mid-range W-series offering. It was part of the Isuzu-based forward-control truck program that gave commercial buyers a compact footprint with good visibility and maneuverability, while still covering heavier-duty work than the smaller W-series variants. Over time, it was sold through the late 1980s and 1990s under GMC’s evolving medium-duty nomenclature, including Forward and Tiltmaster usage in parts and service references. The truck was aimed squarely at vocational and fleet customers such as delivery, utility, and upfit applications, where the cab-over layout and short overall length were major advantages in urban and worksite use. By the early 2000s, GMC’s medium-duty lineup had moved on to revised W6500/T-series naming, bringing the original W6-era designation to a close.
