This GMC medium-duty conventional truck lineage was introduced for the 1973 model year as part of General Motors’ redesigned Class 5–7 work-truck range. It sat above the light-duty pickup line and was built for commercial duty, with chassis configurations commonly used for dump trucks, wreckers, tractors, and other vocational bodies. By the early 1980s, the largest versions were commonly identified with the TopKick/C7000 naming used on GMC’s medium-duty trucks, reflecting the truck’s place at the heavy end of the lineup. The series remained in production through the 1989 model year, after which GMC moved to the all-new GMT530 medium-duty family for 1990 production. Enthusiasts generally remember it as one of the most durable and widely adapted GMC commercial truck platforms of its era, especially in fleet and vocational service.
