MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the LN800

This nameplate belonged to Ford’s L-Series Louisville heavy truck family, which debuted for the 1970 model year as a new generation of conventional commercial trucks. The LN variant identified the “long-nose” conventionals, and the 800 designation sat in the upper medium/heavy-duty portion of the lineup, positioned for vocational and fleet work rather than passenger comfort. Over time, the L-Series became a familiar Ford commercial chassis across a broad range of hauling and service applications, with the LN 800 appearing in Ford literature and parts coverage through the mid-1980s. For 1983 through 1986, Ford service publications continued to include the LN 600, LN 700, and LN 800 within the L-Series truck family, while later material shifted to the 8000-series nomenclature. In that sense, the LN 800 represents the earlier long-nose Louisville era before Ford’s heavier conventionals evolved into the better-known LN8000 and related 8000-series models. It is remembered as a straightforward work truck built for durability, upfitting, and commercial duty rather than style.
