Ford introduced this heavy-duty cabover for the 1979 model year as part of its CL series, aimed at line-haul and vocational buyers who wanted a high-capacity highway tractor with a tilting cab. It sat at the top end of Ford’s cab-over truck range and was offered in a variety of configurations over time, including sleeper and non-sleeper versions as well as chassis-cab applications. Contemporary Ford data books and sales literature show it continuing through the 1980s and into the 1991 model year, while the following model-year data book no longer lists it, pointing to 1991 as the end of the run. The model is remembered as one of Ford’s best-known heavy-duty cabovers of the era, especially among over-the-road operators and truck enthusiasts who favor the classic cabover look and the square, work-focused styling of Ford’s late-1970s and 1980s heavy-truck line.
