MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Desert X

This adventure-oriented Ducati nameplate was introduced for the 2022 model year, following a concept preview in 2019 and an official unveiling in December 2021 as part of Ducati’s 2022 model range. It was positioned as the brand’s first serious entry into the large-displacement travel-enduro segment with a clear off-road emphasis, bringing long-travel suspension, a 21-inch front wheel, and a rally-inspired silhouette to a Ducati that was intended to go beyond the pavement.

From the start, the model stood out in Ducati’s lineup for blending the company’s familiar character with a more exploratory brief. Rather than being a pure road-focused adventure bike, it was designed around the idea of desert travel and rough-surface riding, which influenced its styling, chassis concept, ergonomics, and overall image. That positioning helped it attract riders who wanted a Ducati with genuine dirt-road credibility as well as touring ability.

The nameplate continued in a single production run after launch, and in 2026 Ducati introduced a substantially revised second generation rather than reviving a discontinued model. Because the nameplate has remained in continuous use since its 2022 debut, it is treated as one ongoing production history rather than separate eras. Within Ducati’s modern lineup, it became the brand’s distinctive rally-style adventure model and one of the most recognizable expressions of the company’s off-road ambitions.
