This midsize Dodge sedan was introduced for the 1988 model year as part of Chrysler’s front-wheel-drive corporate strategy in the late 1980s. It was positioned above the smaller family cars in Dodge’s lineup and became the brand’s largest sedan of the period. Built on Chrysler’s C-body architecture, it shared much of its underlying engineering and overall mission with its contemporary corporate cousins, but wore Dodge styling and branding to serve buyers who wanted a roomier, more formal four-door without moving into a luxury badge.
The nameplate had a relatively short but notable run, spanning one continuous production period from 1988 through 1993. In period press and brand-retrospective material, it is remembered as an important part of Dodge’s late-1980s and early-1990s lineup, and it briefly became one of the division’s stronger sellers. The nameplate was discontinued after the 1993 model year, with the larger new front-drive sedans effectively taking over its role.
