MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Avenger

This nameplate has two distinct production eras. It first appeared for the 1995 model year as a compact two-door coupe and remained in production through the 2000 model year. After a gap, the name returned for the 2008 model year on a very different vehicle: a four-door midsize sedan aimed at mainstream family buyers. That later version ran through the 2014 model year, after which the nameplate was discontinued again. The two generations shared little beyond the badge, making this a good example of a reused name that evolved with market demands. The first-era coupe was part of the sporty import-fighter wave of the 1990s, while the revived sedan shifted the name into a more practical, everyday role with a focus on comfort, safety, and value. For enthusiasts, the name is remembered both for its original coupe proportions and for its later return as one of the brand’s better-known midsize sedans of the 2000s and early 2010s.
