Chevrolet’s W3500/W4500 was the brand’s medium-duty low-cab-forward truck line for the 1998 through 2010 model years. Developed from the GM/Isuzu commercial-truck partnership, it brought an Isuzu-based chassis and cab architecture into Chevrolet’s medium-duty lineup, aimed at vocational buyers who needed a compact hoodless cab, easy body access, and a larger payload envelope than a conventional light-duty truck. The W-series filled the space between Chevrolet’s pickup-based offerings and its heavier conventional medium-duty trucks, making it a common choice for delivery, service, utility, and specialty body applications.
At launch, the line was centered on the W3500 and W4500 designations, with gasoline and diesel variants offered in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Chevrolet later expanded the family upward with the W5500, while the W3500 and W4500 remained the core models. The trucks were also closely related to GMC’s W-series counterparts and shared much of their engineering with Isuzu’s N-series commercial platforms, reflecting GM’s strategy of using a global medium-duty base for North American work trucks.
The W3500/W4500 stayed in production through the end of the 2010 model year, after which Chevrolet’s medium-duty operations were wound down and the nameplate disappeared from the lineup. Today, the truck is remembered as part of Chevrolet’s last generation of Isuzu-based forward-control commercial trucks, and it remains a familiar sight in vocational and fleet service even after its discontinuation.
