V Conventional

This nameplate belonged to Chevrolet’s four-wheel-drive conventional-cab full-size pickup line during the R/V era. For the 1987 model year, GM reorganized its rounded-line truck naming so the older full-size pickups and related truck variants were identified under the R/V convention, with V denoting the 4x4 versions. Chevrolet used the V Conventional designation through the end of that truck generation, with the nameplate appearing in official model-year documentation through 1991. After that, Chevrolet’s all-new full-size pickups moved to the GMT400-era naming scheme, and the V Conventional designation ended rather than continuing into a later revival. The model is remembered as a transitional late-square-body Chevrolet truck, bridging the older full-size pickup lineage and the modernized 1990s Chevrolet truck era.
