The Story of the P Truck Forward

Chevrolet’s forward-control P-series truck chassis was introduced for the 1960 model year as the brand’s cab-over platform for commercial bodies, step vans, and related specialty applications. Over the years it became the familiar Chevrolet foundation for P-series forward-control chassis, motorhome chassis, and other incomplete-vehicle uses, serving businesses and upfitters rather than conventional retail pickup buyers. The line evolved through successive model updates and heavier-duty configurations, but it remained a distinct forward-control Chevrolet truck family for decades. By the mid-2000s, GM service and calibration documents still referenced P30 chassis applications, and the nameplate appears to have ended after the 2006 model year, closing a very long production run for one of Chevrolet’s most recognizable commercial truck platforms.
