The nameplate was first launched for the 2010 model year as part of BRP’s Can-Am three-wheel road lineup, expanding the Spyder concept beyond the original GS/RS models into a dedicated luxury touring variant. From the beginning, this model was positioned as the comfort-focused flagship of the range, aimed at long-distance riders who wanted more wind protection, storage, and touring amenities than the sportier Spyder versions offered. BRP’s own history materials identify 2010 as the debut year for the first Spyder RT, and later company retrospective content describes the RT lineup as the brand’s luxury-touring expression.
Over time, the model evolved through a major redesign era, with BRP referring to a “2nd Generation” Spyder RT in its historical materials. That second-generation phase marked a clear update in the model’s styling and touring emphasis, while preserving the RT’s core identity as the comfort leader of the Can-Am On-Road family. BRP later described the RT as having seen changes over the years and highlighted a refreshed version with more contemporary design cues, improved comfort features, and increased cargo capacity.
A notable recent chapter in the nameplate’s history came in 2021, when BRP introduced the Spyder RT Sea-to-Sky as a more upscale touring trim within the RT family. Through all of these updates, the RT has remained the brand’s premium touring three-wheeler and a key part of Can-Am’s on-road lineup. Because the nameplate remains in production today, there is no final model year to report.
