Cadillac’s DeVille nameplate traces back to the 1949 Coupe de Ville, introduced as a luxurious hardtop variant of the Series 62 and part of Cadillac’s postwar design leap. The DeVille name later expanded into a full line in 1959, when it became one of Cadillac’s core full-size luxury offerings and a familiar badge across coupe and sedan body styles. Over the decades, it moved with the market from ornate rear-wheel-drive luxury cruisers to more modern, technology-focused flagship sedans, while remaining closely associated with Cadillac prestige, comfort, and American luxury. The nameplate evolved through many redesigns and generations, reflecting changing tastes in styling, packaging, and engineering, but it consistently sat near the top of the brand’s lineup. By the late 1990s and early 2000s, the DeVille had become Cadillac’s mainstream flagship sedan, known for its Northstar V8 power and advanced comfort and safety features. Cadillac discontinued the DeVille after the 2005 model year, ending a long and influential run that spanned more than five decades.
