In the 1960s, the nameplate evolved into a cleaner, more restrained full-size Buick as tailfins faded and the brand emphasized comfort and refinement. Later generations followed the larger American family-sedan formula of the 1970s, before the model was downsized and shifted to front-wheel drive for 1986. That change marked a major turning point: the car became more space-efficient and more closely associated with Buick’s reputation for smooth, quiet everyday transportation.
A second major transformation arrived for the 2000 model year, when the car adopted a more modern front-drive full-size platform and remained one of Buick’s most recognizable mainstream sedans.
