The XB12X was Buell’s adventure-oriented Ulysses variant, introduced for the 2006 model year as part of the XB platform. It marked Buell’s push beyond pure streetfighter and sportbike territory, combining the company’s compact chassis concepts with a more upright, go-anywhere character aimed at riders who wanted touring ability and rough-road capability without moving to a traditional dual-sport or heavyweight ADV machine. The model quickly became one of the most distinctive Buells because of its purpose-built stance and unconventional packaging.
The XB12X remained in the lineup through the end of the original Buell era, with 2010 model-year documentation still listing the Ulysses XB12X. Over time, Buell expanded the Ulysses family with closely related variants, but the XB12X itself is the core adventure-sport nameplate associated with the original Ulysses concept. In enthusiast circles, it is remembered as one of the boldest interpretations of an American adventure motorcycle from the Harley-Davidson/Buell period, and as a bike that helped define Buell’s reputation for unusual engineering and niche-seeking design.
