Ulysses Police

The Police version of Buell’s Ulysses was a purpose-built law-enforcement derivative of the brand’s adventure-sport XB platform. It was introduced for the 2009 model year as the XB12XP, using the Ulysses concept as a base but tailored for government agencies, security work, and other special-duty roles that could involve both paved streets and rougher access roads. Compared with the civilian Ulysses, the Police variant was positioned as a working motorcycle rather than a recreational tourer, with factory support for patrol equipment, hard-use utility, and the brand’s distinctive modular rear bodywork. Its debut reflected Buell’s habit of turning unconventional engineering into niche products aimed at riders who wanted something lighter and more agile than a traditional heavyweight police motorcycle. The nameplate appears in Buell’s 2009 and 2010 XB model documentation, indicating a short production span that extended into the 2010 model year before the Buell brand’s XB-era lineup ended. As a result, the Police Ulysses is remembered as one of the rarer Buell nameplates: a specialized, low-volume offshoot of the Ulysses that blended the model’s upright adventure ergonomics with police and fleet-duty intent.
