MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the M760Li

This long-wheelbase flagship of BMW’s seventh-generation 7 Series was introduced for the 2017 model year after its 2016 debut, created to sit at the very top of the brand’s full-size luxury sedan range. It paired the extended-wheelbase 7 Series body with a V12-focused M Performance character, giving BMW a prestige performance sedan that emphasized effortless power, rear-seat luxury, and long-distance refinement rather than track-oriented aggression. In BMW’s lineup, it served as the halo version of the G12-era 7 Series and became one of the brand’s most recognizable modern V12 sedans.

The nameplate carried through the 7 Series life cycle with its core identity intact, and BMW later updated the car during the 7 Series facelift period. One notable change was the addition of a gasoline particulate filter to the V12 powertrain as emissions regulations tightened. In BMW’s US market, the related M760i Final V12 marked the end of the company’s series-production V12 era in 2022, and the broader 7 Series generation was then replaced by a new model family without this V12 flagship. As a result, this nameplate is remembered as the last and most exclusive chapter of BMW’s long-running V12 luxury-sedan tradition.
