Enthusiasts often remember the 545i as part of the controversial but technically ambitious E60 era, which introduced a more modern, sharply styled 5 Series and a major step forward in electronics and cabin technology. Because it sat at the top of the range before the later 550i, the 545i occupies a distinctive place in the lineage: it is the last V8 5 Series of its specific pre-LCI naming era, and one of the key models that bridged the older BMW performance-sedan formula with the more complex modern 5 Series that followed.
