Legend

The Acura Legend was one of the two original models launched with Acura in North America for the 1986 model year, helping establish Honda’s new luxury division as a serious contender against European premium brands. Positioned as Acura’s flagship, the Legend gave the brand an upscale sedan with a refined V6, sophisticated suspension tuning, and a strong emphasis on quality and comfort rather than flash. It quickly became the core of Acura’s early identity and one of the most important nameplates in the brand’s history. A coupe joined the lineup for the 1987 model year, broadening the Legend beyond the four-door sedan and giving the car a sportier image. The nameplate continued through two generations in the U.S. market, evolving from the original late-1980s design into a larger, more polished early-1990s luxury car. For the 1996 model year, Acura replaced the Legend with the RL, ending the nameplate’s original production run. The Legend is remembered as the car that helped define Acura’s reputation at launch and as one of the most significant Japanese luxury models of the 1980s and 1990s.
