MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the YFM80 (Badger 80)

Yamaha’s Badger 80 was the North American youth ATV version of the YFM80 family, introduced for the 1992 model year as a small-displacement machine aimed at entry-level riders. It sat in Yamaha’s lineup as the brand’s approachable 80cc ATV, with a simple utility-minded layout and easy-to-manage size that made it a common first four-wheeler for younger riders and beginners. The Badger nameplate ran through the 2001 model year, after which Yamaha moved the 80cc youth ATV role toward the Raptor 80 branding in later markets and model years. Within Yamaha’s ATV history, the Badger 80 is remembered as part of the company’s early expansion of youth-oriented four-wheelers, bridging the gap between the first generation of small ATVs and the later sport-focused mini-quad era.
