Yamaha introduced this nameplate for the 2014 model year as the SR Viper, a sports snowmobile aimed primarily at the North American market. The model marked an important step in Yamaha’s snowmobile strategy because it brought the brand back into a more competitive sport-sled segment after years in which the company had leaned more heavily on its own long-running platforms and broader business partnerships. In June 2023, Yamaha announced plans to withdraw from the snowmobile business, stating that North American snowmobile sales would continue through the 2025 model year. That makes 2025 the final model year for this nameplate in the company’s lineup.
