The SCR950 was Yamaha’s retro-styled Sport Heritage scrambler, introduced for the 2017 model year as a factory-built nod to the street scramblers of the 1960s. It was based on the company’s Bolt/V-Star 950 family, but Yamaha gave it a more upright riding position, higher-mounted scrambler cues, wire-spoke wheels, and a look intended to evoke a rugged, back-road spirit rather than a pure off-road machine. In Yamaha’s own launch material, the model was positioned as a daily rider with a vintage attitude and modern fuel-injected V-twin character.
The nameplate was a relatively short-lived addition to Yamaha’s lineup and did not develop into a long-running series. That makes the SCR950 notable as a one-generation interpretation of the scrambler trend rather than a recurring model with multiple eras. Its appeal was less about outright performance and more about style, relaxed ergonomics, and a straightforward, air-cooled big-twin feel aimed at riders who wanted a custom-inspired factory motorcycle.
