MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Trailseeker

This nameplate was introduced for the 2026 model year as Subaru’s all-new battery-electric mid-size SUV and the second model in the company’s global BEV lineup. Subaru first revealed it in April 2025 as a U.S.-market model, then followed with a Japanese-market introduction in 2026. It is closely tied to Subaru’s broader electrification push and was developed jointly with Toyota, reflecting the two companies’ long-running partnership in EV development and manufacturing. The model is positioned as a practical crossover for active use, with an emphasis on everyday usability, cargo space, and Subaru’s familiar all-wheel-drive character rather than outright performance branding. Production began in 2026 at Subaru’s Yajima Plant in Gunma, marking the company’s first in-house production of a global BEV model. As of its introduction, there is no evidence of an earlier production run or a discontinued-and-revived history, so it should be treated as a single continuous nameplate currently in production.
